Start Teaching Yourself Positivity

How often do you say, “it won’t work” or “I can’t do it”?

Well, you’re not alone, in fact, one of the main causes people need a business coach is because they have conditioned themselves into thinking negatively without even realising it.

In some cases, it’s become exceptionally challenging convincing people that they can do the opposite, simply because they’ve conditioned themselves (programmed themselves) into believing there is no other possible outcome than the one they are telling themselves.

Many of our day to day decisions are fed from our subconscious mind, where thoughts are stored and repetition from the use of the words becomes normal to that person.

Think of it like the Stockholm Syndrome. Where a victim develops emotion, trust and friendship with the kidnapper.

In a similar way, we can all too easily develop a relationship with our subconscious mind and some may even feel guilt if they attempt to change.

As an example, David, a CEO of a company, has always undervalued his staff and has convinced himself for years that staff are easily replaceable who hold little value and no loyalty, despite this not being the case for his company.

In David’s case, productivity and staff attendance was low and manufacturing of goods was suffering as a result. David didn’t see the value in looking after staff, he also didn’t realise that it was costing more time, effort and money having to hire and fire more often than he should.

Changing David’s mindset by using techniques to learn to appreciate the value of his staff, demonstrated visually, created the realisation that the impact of not looking after the staff had a profound affect on business turnover.

David soon came to realise that by changing his attitude towards staff at all levels, productivity increased, staff retention increased, and staff absents reduced.

The end result was a CEO who understood How Positive Thinking Improves Your Business and began to take time to say hello to staff, even when passing on the shop floor.

He changed his mantra to include, “I have the best team“, or, “my staff are hard, loyal workers, I must thank them” which made him appreciate them more because he was using his conscious mind to influence such behaviour, positive behaviours.

As a Business coach, I often analyse the staff’s mentality and get a true understanding of how they feel. In some cases, they feel undervalued, or unappreciated, which gives me good indications as to why performance is lacking.

On the other hand, some business owners don’t feel as though their staff are open enough with them, and therefore don’t provide valuable feedback, a communication issue, or as I often say, the “yes” people who just to come to work, get paid and go home, because that’s how it is.

How Positive Thinking Improves Your Business

I’ve worked in roles where I have felt unappreciated and undervalued, most days I couldn’t wait to finish work and for me it was a depressing time that eventually affected my physical and mental health.

Going to work shouldn’t be a place that makes you feel unwelcome, unwanted, or that someone is reluctantly doing you a favour.

A place of work should be a place where you go to be appreciated, praised for doing well and asked to contribute beyond just doing your day to day grind, make you feel integral, valued and a part of a respected team.

Many of my clients yearn for their staff to share ideas, feedback, recommendations or suggestions. It can be lonely being a boss, especially if you’re perceived to be intimidating, or lack empathy.

There are ways to overcome this though. During my time with a particular client it, was agreed to try something different, so we sent out a form to all members of staff asking specific questions about how they felt the company valued their contribution to the workplace.

They were asked to note what changes they would make that believed would increase performance or productivity as well as working conditions.

The response actually proved to be incredibly beneficial, amongst the responses were some suggestions to make innovative and affordable improvements that proved able to deliver tangible results, increase staff mood, production and retention.

This exercise also highlighted to the business owner why the staff wouldn’t share this information before. As it happens, and one the most common reasons, was that their perception being that the boss doesnt seem interested.

If we think positive thoughts, positive actions come of it. Likewise, if we think negatively, then it’s likely that we are willing it to happen.

We need to learn to expect positive outcomes, and with that we change our mindset, In turn we alter the course of our actions and bring a more favourable outcome.

We learn to use our conscious thoughts and recondition our minds. This without doubt, proves to have a much brighter outcome and bring with it success.
